Introduction to Photoshop AI
Adobe Photoshop has introduced a new feature called Generative Fill, which is powered by Adobe Firefly generative AI. This feature allows users to quickly create, add to, remove, or replace images with simple text prompts. Generative Fill is supported by Adobe’s Firefly family of creative generative AI models, which enables users to extend images and add or remove objects easily. This feature aims to provide users with a creative co-pilot to speed up ideation, exploration, and production. Generative Fill is integrated directly into Photoshop, which marries the speed and ease of generative AI with the power and precision of Photoshop [1].
Generative Fill is not the only AI feature in Photoshop. Adobe has a decade-long history of AI innovation, delivering hundreds of intelligent capabilities through Adobe Sensei into applications that millions of people rely upon. Other AI features in Photoshop include Neural Filters and Content-Aware Fill.
Getting Started
To use Generative Fill, all you have to do is sign up and install Photoshop Beta. Once done, you can open “Photoshop (Beta)” and access the generative AI feature. At the time of writing this post, this feature is only available in beta version of the Photoshop.
In a world where technology continues to push boundaries and redefine possibilities, we find ourselves amazed by the wonders of artificial intelligence. Recently, I had the opportunity to experience the power of Photoshop AI firsthand while exploring the picturesque beauty of the Drava River in Varazdin, Croatia. While the software impressed me with its ability to manipulate certain elements flawlessly, there were areas where improvements were needed. Join me as I delve into this adventure and share my thoughts on the incredible capabilities of Photoshop AI.
Capturing the Serenity
I went out for a walk, and I stood on a bridge of the Drava River, I couldn’t help but felt inspired to capture the beautiful nature. Thus, I captured the serene beauty of the landscape, never thought it would look so good with my 5-year-old phone’s camera. The soft and smooth water, lush greenery, and charming sunset at the riverside created a perfect setting.
After I took the snapshot, I heard about the announcement of Adobe AI. I thought this was the perfect picture to experiment with the AI.
Unleashing Creativity
Back at my computer, I eagerly imported the photo into Photoshop AI. The first task on my agenda was to add a touch of life to the scene by incorporating fish, birds, and flights. While the software showed potential, it struggled to seamlessly blend these elements into the picture. The outcome fell short of my expectations, highlighting the need for further improvements in this area.
However, when I tried manipulating the snapshot with other objects, I was pleasantly surprised by the results. When it came to adding a canoe boat drifting along the river and depicting people swimming in the water. Photoshop AI excelled in seamlessly integrating these elements into the composition, making the scene appear as if it was captured in real-time.
Continuing my editing or “experiment”, I turned my attention to the riverbanks on the sides and tried adding houses to those lines. Here, Photoshop AI proved to be a game-changer. With its intelligent color correction and intuitive selection tools, I effortlessly enhanced the vibrancy of the houses, bringing out their unique architectural features. Results were impressive and realistic with the reflection of the boat in the water and the well-proportioned houses on both side banks of the river.
How to use Generative Fill
Once you open the image that you want to edit with the beta version of Photoshop. All you have to do is follow the three simple steps below to achieve the generative AI power of the software.
- Select the area you want to change.
- Click the “Generative Fill” button and type whatever you want to add or remove to/from the selected area.
- Select “Generate”.
That’s it.
Conclusion
My experience with Photoshop AI while editing my photo of the Drava River in Varazdin, Croatia, was a fascinating one. While the software demonstrated incredible potential, there were certain areas that could benefit from further refinements, such as the integration of birds and flights. However, when it came to adding a canoe boat, swimming people, and enhancing the houses, Photoshop AI truly excelled, elevating my manipulation to new heights.
As we continue to witness advancements in artificial intelligence, it is important to acknowledge both the remarkable achievements and areas for improvement. Photoshop AI serves as a testament to the ever-evolving nature of technology, paving the way for innovative tools that enable us to unleash our creativity and bring our visions to life.
So, if you’re an aspiring artist, photographer, or simply someone who appreciates the magic of image editing, I encourage you to give Photoshop AI a try. Embrace the power of this cutting-edge software and embark on your own journey of transforming imagination into reality.
