Add Hijri Calendar to iPhone with ease

Updated on 10th November 2022

What is Hijri Calendar?

The Hijri calendar, also called the Muslim calendar or the Islamic calendar in English, is a lunar calendar with 12 lunar months in a year that has 354 or 355 days. It is used to determine the correct dates for Islamic celebrations and rituals, such as the annual season for the great pilgrimage and the annual fasting.

Why add it?

Nowadays we use phones to see the calendar. And it is difficult if we have to find a printed one or search the internet to find the Hijri calendar every single time. If it is something necessary, we need to have it in our pockets or palms.

Adding the Hijri calendar to your iPhone will help you track the Islamic calendar side by side with the default iPhone calendar. You can do it with simple steps.

To do that, you don’t have to remove the default calendar or change the default calendar app on your phone. You can just add the Hijri Calendar as a secondary calendar, which will appear right next to the default date.

Let’s do it.

Add Hijri Calendar

All you have to do is to follow the simple 4 steps below:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap “Calendar”
  3. Tap “Alternate Calendars”
  4. Select “Islamic”

That’s it 🙂

Are you facing any issues?

After setting the calendar, sometimes you might notice that it is one day behind or one day ahead of the exact Hijri date.

This issue was raised in the Apple Community forum and was addressed with a solution by a community specialist.

The solution is super easy (Alhamdulillah). You just have to change the region to “Saudi Arabia” in the settings app. That will solve the issue for you.

Let me guide you through that as well.

How to fix the Calendar issue

If you want to know how to do that, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap “Calendar” and turn off “Alternative Calendars”
  3. Go back to settings and Tap “Language & Region”
  4. Tap “Region”
  5. Select “Saudi Arabia”.
  6. Go back to Settings
  7. Tap “Calendar”
  8. Tap “Alternate Calendars”
  9. Select “Islamic”

That’s it. With that, you should have fixed the issue with your Islamic or Hijri calendar, insha’Allah.

Now, don’t forget to change the region back to your region. Here’s how you can do that.

Change Region

To change the region, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to settings
  2. Tap “General”
  3. Tap “Language & Region”
  4. Tap “Region”
  5. Select your region or country.

That’s it.

Will the calendar be ruined when I switch back?

No. The Hijri calendar will remain fixed even if you change the region. In fact, I suggest you change back to your region after fixing the issue with the calendar.

I hope that helps.

What next?

Now that you learned how to add Hijri Calendar, you might also want to learn how to type long phrases with shortcuts in your iPhone.

I use this function to send long Arabic phrases with Latin shortcut keywords. For example, “ia” stands for “إن شاء الله”, “jk” stands for “جزاك اللهُ خيرًا” and so on.

For that, I have a very easy guide. Click here to read that short article.

All the best and hope to see you again 🙂
